The phoenix bird is a mythical bird from Greek mythology. It was a feathered creature of great size with talons and wings, its plumage radiant and beautiful. The phoenix lived for 500 years before it built its own funeral pyre, burst into flame, and died, consumed in its own fiery inferno. Soon after, the mythical creature rose out of the ashes, in a transformation from death to life.
This powerful creature represents transformation, death, and rebirth in its fire. As a powerful spiritual totem, the phoenix is the ultimate symbol of strength and renewal. As both a fire and solar symbol, the phoenix animal guide is symbolic of the sun, which “dies” in setting each night only to be reborn in rising the next morning.
Anyone, any concept or any industry able to emerge from a catastrophe stronger, smarter and more powerful is symbolic to the Phoenix rising from it’s ashes.

The phoenix rising tour is inspired to enable an analysis of the critical success factors that contribute to forging new pathways for the African creative economy development by engaging globally to facilitate productive mutual learning as well as the sharing of information and experiences.
Today, the creative industries are among the most dynamic sectors in the world economy providing new opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy. According to UNCTAD figures, the global market value of industries that rely heavily on creative and cultural inputs is estimated at $1.3. With real disposable income rising globally, the demand for goods and services produced by the creative industries is anticipated to rise much further, fuelling growth in creative sectors and across the overall economy.
Due to technological progress, innovation, and global awareness, the economy which is growing faster than any other economic sector is shifting towards the creative industry to advance and better the world by developing economies, empowering communities, cultivating meaningful work, making money & helping boost other industries.
In order to create a brand new story for a brand new decade through the creative economy which is an important source of commercial and cultural value in Africa and beyond, the phoenix rising experience provides an opportunity to integrate between cultures, regions and various art forms through fostering collaborations that can birth a whole new dimension of art for the creative consumer as well as the creative entrepreneur.
“The creative economy and its industries are strategic sectors that if nurtured can boost competitiveness, productivity, sustainable growth, employment and exports potential," UNCTAD’s international trade and commodities director, Pamela Coke-Hamilton.
